Possibly married Elizabeth (died 1950 aged 90) Kids Thomas, William, Edward, Imelda, Michael, Mary E. and John. eg MRS. ELIZABETH RIDGE. (1950, July 28). Southern Cross (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1954), p. 5. Retrieved February 9, 2015, from http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article167730635 MRS. ELIZABETH RIDGE THE death occurred at her home, Victoria Street, Prospect, recently of Mrs. Elizabeth Ridge. She had been a well-known and highly respected member of the Church of the Holy Rosary, Prospect, for the past 23 years. Born at Koonunga near Kapunda on June 6, 1859, her parents were William and Mary Curtis, both early Irish pio neers. .She was baptised by the Rev. Fr. Michael Ryan, one of the early pioneer Priests of that district. In 1882 she was married in St. Rose's Church, Kapunda, by Rev. Fr. Williams (later Monsignor) to the late Edward Ridge, a member of an equally well known Catholic family, who had come from America to settle in the same district and who was a relative of Rev. Fr. Michael Ryan. Mrs. Ridge, her husband and family of seven were staunch members of St. Rose's during their long residence in Kapunda. Having retained a clear memory there was nothing she would rather converse on than the early days of the church and its early parishioners. It was only in the last years of her life that this grand old woman was halted in her activities by loss of sight. During all this time her spiritual needs were attended to by the Dominican Priests of Prospect. She is survived by the following members of her family—Thomas, William, Edward, Imelda, Michael, Mary and John; also six grandsons and four great-grand children. May God have mercy upon her gentle soul. - |
